The MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS was established in 1988 as a collaborative effort between the Governments of the Republic of Uganda and the United Kingdom on the research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). The Unit is a centre of excellence in HIV/AIDS related research It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to inform policy and practice, and that have led to a large number of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals over time.

Responsibilities

  • Drive designated vehicles according to current safety, route and schedule policies.
  • Record all journeys undertaken in the log book
  • Ensure the vehicle driven is in a safe operating condition.
  • Report any faults found on the vehicle to the fleet supervisor for immediate rectification
  • Conduct weekly checks and submit reports to the supervisor on the mechanical condition of the assigned vehicle
  • Ensure vehicles are not overloaded with passengers or goods.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor on all matters arising from duties assigned
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle clean and tidy both internally and externally
  • Maintain a smart appearance while on duty

Qualifications:


  • Must have completed A-Level or the equivalent.
  • Good credits in O'Level Mathematics and English are preferred
  • 3 years driving experience, two of which must have been in a large, reputable organisation.
  • Good communication skills in English Certificate in defensive driving.
  • Valid Driver's Licence with Classes B, C & DL Certificate in vehicle mechanics is an added advantage
Terms and conditions: Successful applicants will serve a 2-year contract with a possibility of renewal inclusive of a 6-month probation.
